Giclée Print with Gloss Overlay
50 x 70 cm
Supremely ‘wall friendly’ print from Ron’s 2012 London show Skin Deep: Post-Instinctual Afterthoughts On Psychological Portraiture. The madonna is adorned with robes containing panels from vintage Wonder Woman comics, profiling the consistency of a protective female archetype and raising difficult questions around the foisting of this role on women by men – after all, neither of these female characters was ‘created’ by a person of their own gender.
Ron of course is considered the godfather of the urban art movement: he was the first to ‘jack’ billboard adverts and also arguably the first to bring an illustrative style with concise socio-political messaging to the streets themselves.
