Description
No other artist combines and contrasts the personal with the environmental like Alexandre Farto. The city, after all, is its people. If you read Norman Mailer’s Faith of Graffiti you’ll know that he considered our style of painterly vandalism to be humanity’s attempt to retake control of its local space. Vhils’ pieces take this aim one step further, creating portraits from the detritus of the consumer economy. This is a fantastic example of that. It’s hand-finished by him too.
Vhils sculpts evocative portraits from the eroding layers of the urban environment, using old flyposters, pneumatic drills and even explosives to restore humanity in the city.
