Screenprint on paper

Description

Framed, from the original 1960s edition of 100. A definitive piece by the screen printing, pop art Los Angeles nun that was described by the Bishop of LA (if you can imagine such a thing) as ‘sinister and weird’. Nun Corita Kent (1918-1986) is a talismanic figure in the screen print world. During the 1960s her distinct works of outsider art combined pop art, spirituality and protest. Warhol himself attended her shows, but elements within the religious establishment unfortunately labelled it ‘sinister’. A gallery dedicated to her was opened in Los Angeles during 2019.
